In 1956 Rolf Blakstad came to Ibiza from Canada and was so impressed by the city he found when arriving at the port that he barely left the island since then. The little houses in Dalt Vila, the people in the street, the nearness of the manners... As he himself said:
“The whole city, even the streets, had the informal air of a living room shared for everyone. We did not felt as foreigners”
Once was Ibiza established as his permanent residence, Blakstad started to study the rural houses and the traditional building techniques while he developed a deep respect and fondness for the Ibizan culture and its natural environment. Is in Ibiza where he starts his work in the field of the architecture, restoring rural houses and, lately building new ones inspired in the foundations of the millenarian "casa payesa" (traditional Ibizan rural house). Soon, his sons became part of his projects and, nowadays, they are the ones that keep running the architecture studio in Ibiza.
This book gathers some of the best houses from Blakstad photographed by Conrad White, dutch photographer of a great career and standing in the world of photography. White is the author of many reports about decorating and a multitude of covers in the broadsheet magazines (Elle, AD, House and Garden, Marie Claire, ...) and several books about photography (Ibiza isla de los tesoros, Ibiza surprising architecture, Barcelona 360º, Holy She...). Its harmony with the spaces of Blakstad is reflected in his photographs.
Ibiza Blakstad Houses was edited by Loft Publications in 2012, it has 296 full color pages, hardback covers of 26,5x26,5 cm and the texts are written in english and spanish.
